⁸ That is why it says, “When he ascended on high, he took captivity captive and gave gifts to his people.”^{[a] 9} Now what does it mean when it says “he ascended,” other than that he also had descended^[b] to the lower parts, namely, the earth?^{[c] 10} He who descended is the same one who ascended far above all the heavens, so that he might fill all things.
